Visa to China

Canadians will be able to travel to China without visas.

China has announced a temporary visa-free regime for Canadian citizens — a step that Ottawa and Canadian media are already calling part of a new phase in relations between the two countries. According to Canadian sources, as of February 17, 2026, holders of regular Canadian passports can enter China without a visa for up to 30 days — for tourism, business trips, transit, and visits to relatives/friends.

It is important to note: this is not a “full opening of borders,” but an easing of short-term travel. The Canadian government resource Travel.gc.ca emphasizes that the program runs until December 31, 2026, and those who do not meet the conditions (for example, anyone planning study, work, or a longer stay) still need a visa.

Canadian press coverage notes that China’s decision comes amid attempts to improve bilateral dialogue after a period of tension — and may make it easier for businesses, tour operators, academic exchanges, and families separated by distance to reconnect.

At the same time, experts remind travelers that normalization of travel does not eliminate security concerns or political disagreements, so it’s wise to check the latest requirements on official resources and plan carefully.
