How “Voice of the Capital” Radio Is Creating a New Rhythm for Ottawa

Ottawa is a city of thousands of stories, talents, and life journeys. A year and a half ago, our capital gained its own distinctive sound — the online radio station “Voice of the Capital.” At Nasha Ottawa publishing house, we have always believed that a modern media outlet should be wherever its readers are: in the car on the way to work, in the kitchen over morning coffee, or in headphones during a run through Gatineau Park. That is exactly how “Voice of the Capital” Radio was born a year and a half ago.

The radio station became a natural continuation of our glossy magazine, transforming Nasha Ottawa into a full-fledged multimedia ecosystem. Today, we are not only a high-quality print publication, but also the city web portal NashaOttawa.ca, online TV, social media, and, of course, radio. This format allows us to stay connected with you 24/7.

The success of “Voice of the Capital” Radio is no coincidence. It is built on years of experience and a true passion for media. Back in 2017–2020, Yuri, the publisher of Nasha Ottawa, was one of the organizers of a multicultural broadcasting project in Toronto. The project, which brought together programs in more than 20 languages, received a prestigious award from Canada’s National Ethnic Press and Media Council.

The pandemic made its own adjustments, putting many projects on hold, but it could not put the dream on hold.

Today, all this accumulated knowledge and experience — from technical streaming to news selection and interviewing skills — has been brought together in the “Voice of the Capital” project. And the station’s longtime host, Pavel Rozhkov, creates our signature sound every day, selecting music that sets the right mood for all our listeners.

“Radio is a unique platform. It does not require you to sit staring at your phone, yet it still gives you a sense of being connected to the life of the city,” says Yuri, publisher of Nasha Ottawa.

What can you hear on our airwaves today? “Voice of the Capital” is a radio station with something for everyone:

Music archive: from nostalgic Soviet hits and timeless classics to the latest contemporary tracks.

Useful content: fresh news from Canada, Ottawa, and Gatineau; interviews with experts and interesting people from our city; and podcasts on current topics.

For the whole family: warm children’s stories and informative programs for young listeners.

In a year and a half, we have grown from a local project into a serious media platform with tens of thousands of listeners every month. We are heard in the United States and Europe, but the heart of our audience remains here — in Ottawa and Gatineau.

In the new season, we are setting ourselves an ambitious goal: to make the broadcast even more truly representative of the capital.

We want “Voice of the Capital” to speak in the voices of our neighbours — local musicians, poets, journalists, and entrepreneurs. We invite you to collaborate with us:

Authors and hosts: If you have an idea for a podcast or a segment such as “What You Need to Know in Ottawa Today,” we will give you a microphone and an audience.

Musicians: We want thousands of listeners to hear your music.

Business partners: Tell people about your business through a live interview or sponsored segment.

Your previous experience is not what matters most to us — what matters is your love for the city and your desire to share something interesting. After all, the best stories are told by those who know Ottawa from the inside.

How can you find us? Visit NashaOttawa.ca, click the live broadcast link, and stay tuned to the rhythm of our city.
