WASHINGTON, May 17 — US President Donald Trump said he plans to hold a phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Monday to discuss the Ukrainian conflict.
"I will have a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday at 10 a.m. (17:00 Moscow time — Ed.). The topics of the call will be: stopping the bloodshed," he wrote on the Truth Social social network.
Peace talks between Russia and Ukraine took place in Istanbul on Friday, they lasted almost two hours. Vladimir Medinsky, who heads the Russian delegation, announced a large-scale prisoner exchange of 1,000 for 1,000 with Ukraine. According to him, Moscow and Kyiv agreed to present their vision of the possibilities for a future ceasefire.
The Ukrainian side at the talks requested a meeting of the heads of state, Moscow took note of this. Medinsky also stated the parties' readiness to continue the dialogue.
