Yuri Vizbor's 90th Birthday Concert
On November 22, an incredible concert took place, dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Yuri Vizbor, the author and performer of songs that have become part of our cultural memory. These melodies are sung today, will be sung tomorrow, and will be passed on to the next generation, because their soulfulness and sincerity are timeless.
A huge thank you to Elena Obolenskaya and the TOLK club for organizing this evening. You gave us the opportunity to once again immerse ourselves in Vizbor's world—a world of warmth, lyricism, and true romance.
For many of us, the name Yuri Vizbor symbolizes a bygone youth: childhood in pioneer camps, campfire hikes with a guitar, snow-white mountain peaks, and the endless expanses of the taiga. These are the songs that sang during moments of first love and travel, inspiring heroic deeds and warming the soul. "My Darling, Forest Sun" and his other masterpieces became the soundtrack of those distant yet dear years.
Vizbor was a man of astonishing versatility: poet, writer, bard, film actor, journalist, and screenwriter. His voice was heard on the radio station "Yunost," his lyrics were published in leading magazines, and his songs united thousands of people. But Vizbor's most significant legacy is the creation of over 300 songs that have become anthems for romantics, hikers, climbers, and anyone who appreciates original songs. His "song-reportages," as he called them, were filled with warmth and sincerity, making them relatable to every listener.
For me personally, Vizbor's work is a living connection to my youth. I've been hiking since childhood, mountaineering in my youth, and worked on geological expeditions in the harsh expanses of Chukotka and Yakutia. That's why songs about the Fann Mountains, Dombay, Erzog, and Chukotka aren't just geography for me, but touching memories of the romance of youth. This concert took me back to those happy times, reminding me of that happy era when every day was full of adventure, and Vizbor's songs warmed my soul along the way.
Thank you to everyone who was part of this evening. May these songs resonate in your hearts for a long time to come, inspiring and filling you with warmth.
