A Spectacular Finale Lights Up the Ottawa Sky
The Les Grands Feux du Casino Lac-Leamy fireworks festival concluded above the Ottawa River on August 15. The final pyromusical performance took place beside the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, with Parliament Hill providing a magnificent backdrop.
Our Ottawa correspondent Yuri Natchetoi watched the show from one of the best viewing locations near the museum and prepared a video report. Colourful fireworks reflected on the water, while synchronized music transformed the festival’s closing night into a memorable summer event.
The 2026 program featured six evenings: an opening ceremony, performances by pyrotechnic teams representing Canada, France, Brazil and China, and the Grand Finale. The final 25-minute production was presented by Quebec-based Royal Pyrotechnie. Its theme celebrated heroes—from imaginary superheroes and outstanding athletes to ordinary people who demonstrate courage in everyday life.
Held from July 29 to August 15, the festival launched its fireworks from a barge on the Ottawa River, framed by the museum, the waterfront and Canada’s Parliament Buildings.
