Taisia Sekret: A Reputation Money Can’t Buy

How a ByWard Market clinic has been named Ottawa’s best two years in a row

In the heart of Ottawa, among its historic façades, a clinic that local residents deservedly call the best in the city has been operating for three consecutive years. Beauty Sekrets was named “Ottawa’s Best Medical Aesthetics Clinic” in both 2024 and 2025, while its Instagram page has attracted thousands of followers who closely follow the clinic’s work. We met with the clinic’s founder, Taisia Sekret, to learn how her medical background, family traditions, and attentive approach to every client helped build such a strong reputation.

Taisia, tell us how Beauty Sekrets came to be and why you chose ByWard Market.

I opened the clinic in 2018, and from the very beginning, I knew I wanted it to be in the heart of the city—a place where history meets modern life. ByWard Market is the soul of Ottawa, a place people visit in search of authentic experiences rather than another chain-business sign.

I wanted the clinic to be more than an impersonal medical office. I wanted it to be a space with character—filled with good light, quiet, and the feeling that you have all the time you need, rather than just fifteen minutes in a busy schedule.

Before opening the clinic, you worked as a nurse. How has that experience influenced your practice?

I worked for many years as a registered nurse in trauma care, and that gave me something cosmetic courses cannot teach: the habit of taking responsibility for every result and never putting a client’s health at risk.

Every injection and every procedure at our clinic is performed with medical precision. Clients often tell me that this sense of safety and reliability is exactly what makes them trust us from their very first visit.

The clinic is known for using the latest technologies. What treatments do you currently offer?

We strive to be among the first to bring proven technologies to Ottawa. These include Ulthera for non-surgical lifting, advanced laser systems for skin rejuvenation, hair removal and pigmentation treatment, microneedling, PRP therapy, Sculptra biostimulators, and Belkyra injections.

But technology is a tool, not an end in itself. I always tell my team that even the most advanced device cannot replace the attentive eye of a professional who sees the entire face rather than a single area—and who knows when to say, “Not yet.”

Beauty Sekrets has been recognized as Ottawa’s best medical aesthetics clinic for the second year in a row. What does this award mean to you?

This recognition is based largely on the reviews and votes of our clients, rather than solely on the decision of an outside jury, which makes it especially meaningful.

It means that people do not simply visit us once—they come back and bring their friends, mothers, and daughters. To me, this award confirms that honesty and natural-looking results are more effective than any advertising campaign. A reputation cannot be bought; it can only be earned, year after year.

Who are your typical clients today?

Most of our clients are accomplished, busy women over the age of 35 or 40 who are used to making their own decisions. They do not come because they are unhappy with themselves. They come because they want to invest in themselves as thoughtfully as they invest in their careers or homes.

They are usually interested not in a single procedure but in a comprehensive approach: improving skin quality, achieving a gentle lifting effect, and maintaining volume in the right areas. I enjoy working with them because they know exactly what they want and value an honest professional conversation more than beautiful promises.

Your father is also involved in the beauty and wellness industry. He owns Secrets of Beauty in Gatineau. Tell us about that.

Yes, it is a rather amusing family story. My father is a licensed massage therapist who opened Secrets of Beauty in Gatineau many years ago. There, he helps people cope with the effects of stress and physical tension through therapeutic massage.

We often joke that each of us chose a different half of caring for the person: he works with the body, while I work with the skin and face. But we share the same philosophy: listen rather than pressure, and provide genuine help.

How do you find the right balance between visible results and a natural appearance?

It is something we work on every day, not a fixed formula. I always favour moderation. It is better to do one step less and assess the result after a couple of weeks than to do too much at once and regret it later.

If a client comes in saying, “I want a completely different face,” we always pause and discuss that request carefully. The best compliment for me is when a client’s friend says, “You look wonderful,” but cannot figure out exactly what has changed.

Tell us more about Sekrets Glow. Why has it become your signature treatment?

Sekrets Glow is a treatment that perfectly reflects our philosophy. Its purpose is not to change the face but to improve skin quality and restore freshness, firmness, and radiance. It is designed to promote regeneration and natural renewal.

I love it when the result does not look like, “I had something done,” but rather, “I rested well, got enough sleep, and look refreshed.” After treatments like this, the skin appears healthier, smoother, and better cared for. For many clients, that is exactly the result they want—not a dramatic transformation, but a healthy, natural glow.

Many people are afraid of injectable treatments. How do you address those concerns?

It is completely normal to feel nervous before a first treatment, especially if someone has heard various stories or seen unsuccessful examples online.

That is why we explain everything in detail: what will happen, how long the treatment will take, what sensations to expect, what the recovery process is like, and what restrictions should be followed afterward.

Trust between the client and the practitioner is extremely important. Clients need to know that no one will pressure them into unnecessary treatments. If I believe a procedure is not needed or that it would be better to wait, I will say so. Honesty is the foundation of a good result.

How do you determine where the line lies between improving someone’s appearance and going too far?

This is one of the most important questions in aesthetics. A good practitioner must see not only one individual area but the face as a whole: its proportions, expressions, age, and the person’s individual style. Sometimes a small correction produces a much better result than a major intervention.

I always favour moderation. It is better to proceed gradually, observe how the face responds, and preserve harmony. Beauty should never look artificial. For me, the best compliment a client can receive after a treatment is when people say, “You look so good,” but cannot tell exactly what has changed.

You mentioned that the skin reflects not only age but also lifestyle. Which habits have the greatest impact on appearance?

Sleep, hydration, nutrition, stress levels, consistency of skincare, and sun protection all matter. Even the most advanced treatments work better when a person takes care of themselves every day. A single visit to a specialist cannot entirely compensate for months of insufficient sleep and stress.

I always explain to clients that medical aesthetics is not magic—it is a partnership. We can help the skin recover, improve tissue quality, and select effective professional treatments. But at-home skincare and lifestyle are also very important.

What, in your opinion, distinguishes Beauty Sekrets from an ordinary aesthetics studio?

First and foremost, I think it is our atmosphere and approach. No one here feels like “just another client.” We strive to create a space that is calm, professional, beautiful, and safe—a place where people can ask any question and openly discuss their concerns, expectations, budget, and treatment plan.

We also have a strong team. Our professionals are constantly learning, improving their qualifications, and keeping up with new technologies while maintaining a genuinely warm and human approach to every client. That is essential to me: professionalism without warmth simply does not work in the beauty industry.

What advice would you give to readers of Nasha Ottawa who are still hesitant to take the first step?

Start with a consultation. It does not commit you to anything, but it provides clarity and relieves much of the anxiety.

Taking care of yourself after the age of 35 or 40 is not a luxury or an indulgence. It is a sensible investment in your quality of life, just like getting enough sleep or exercising. You deserve to feel confident every day, not only on special occasions—and a good professional will always help you find the right, gentle path.

Beauty Sekrets is a story of how medical precision, family values, and attention to detail can create a clinic trusted by an entire city. And, judging by its success, we are certain to hear about many more of the clinic’s achievements.
